the nail house now becomes a legend as the two story building was demolished today.  according to bbc, Ms. Wu's final comment, "Oh well."

Here is another story on the nail house, but with this fabulous line:
"Ms Wu now uses pulleys to lift food and water into her house. Her husband, a kung fu master, has used his martial arts skills to fend off gangs sent by the developers to evict them."

Chonqing Nail House (as in, sticks out like a nail)

This is featured on blog Virtual China. Developers are waiting to tear down this apartment building in order to put up a new condo complex, but long time resident Ms Wu refuses to budge, demanding an apartment of the same size as her existing one in the new complex . They have refused, offering her instead a sum of money. I wonder how long she can hold out. It is somehow reminiscent of Batteries Not Included, the schmaltzy Spielberg film about aging residents in a similar situation.
